Once you draft a player you have their rights. You need to sign them to a contract(select two way, so you can pay them less in minors). You can sign whoever you draft, but sometimes its best to leave them in juniors to see how they develop. I wouldn't sign someone until they are at least one star. Once you have signed someone they will show in your nhl team but you will have the option to demote them to your farm team. The draft goes to a lottery, team with the worst 5 records go into a lottery to see where they end up, the rest in order of where they finished. For players you have signed, go to your team, then transactions, you'll see a heading called unsigned, thats where all your draft picks and players you hold rights to but not signed to a contract are. Also look at finances and salary obligations, that will help
