G1: BRK - 0, DET - 5
Fred Hutchinson holds the Dodgers to no hits through 5 innings before yielding a single but continuing on to a 3-hit shutout. Branca goes the distance for the Dodgers, surrendering 5 runs however aided by 2 Tiger knocks into the stands. Jackie Robinson goes hitless in his first major league game.

Around the League: Ted Williams goes 3/4 with a double and 3 runs leading Boston to victory. Spec Shea shuts out the home team Braves giving the Yankees the opening day win.

G2: BRK - 7, DET - 5
Pee Wee Reese strikes first with a sac fly to score Reiser in the top of the first. Brooklyn's lead would be short lived as Jimmy Outlaw sends Eddie Lake home on a Dixie Walker throwing error. This was followed by George Kell reaching on an error that sent Skeeter Webb across the plate for the 2-1 lead. In the 2nd, Newhouser continued to be hit with Bruce Edwards launching a 2 run blast to left center. Bob Swift would score to tie in the bottom half of the inning after yet another Dixie Walker throwing error. Spider Jorgensen gets the Dodgers back with a single scoring 2 men on a daring run by Furillo the following frame. Swift comes home then on a single for the Tigers to get them within 1 and then in the 5th comes the tie again on a single by Hoot Evers. We finally get a clean inning by both teams in the 6th until Furillo had seen enough and sent a 386 ft bomb to left to take back the Dodger lead. In the top of the 9th Furillo tacked on another solo shot and would help secure the final 7 to 5 victory. Jackie Robinson gets his first two major league hits.

Around the League: Dom DiMaggio goes a perfect 5 for 5 including the game winning run in the top of the 9th that secured another Red Sox victory over the Cards. Henrich and Stirnweiss combine for 6 hits and 5 RBIs as the Yanks pull the rug out from the Braves and take a 6-3 win on the road.

G3: BRK - 1, DET - 9
Duelling no hitters with 2 outs in the bottom of the third was the mirage of a pitcher's battle. A six run 6th inning by the Tigers off the back of Wakefield and Lake homers ended that thought however. Every Tiger hitter besides Swift recorded a hit with six separate Tigers scoring. Rex Barney relieved Vic Lombardi without much help giving up two of his own runs. The lone Dodgers positive was they recorded their first three stolen bases of the season.

Around the League: Spud Chandler shuts out the Braves with the Yanks continuing to pummel the Braves. Jake Jones gets the Red Sox first homer of the season but it doesn't help as it is the lone run scored with Harry Brecheen arresting the BoSox bats.

G4: BRk - 1, DET - 2
Another rough day as the Dodgers failed to ever grab the lead. A Gene Hermanski homerun in the 5th tied it at 1-1, but Eddie Lake's second homerun of the series gave the Tigers all they would need. The Dodgers' lineup continues to fail to produce at the best hitting park they will play at all season only scoring more than 1 run in one of the four games thus far.

Around the League: A five run 5th inning gives the Braves a one run victory, their first of the season. Sibby Sisti reaches base safely four times and knocks two runs in. The Cards tie the series up against Boston with Terry Moore and Del Rice both hitting their first longballs of the young season. Howie Pollet gets the win.

G5: BRK - 6, DET - 9
Pitching woes continue as Hal Gregg gets lit up failing to hold a 3-0 early Dodger lead. Hermanski hits a homerun for 3 runs before a five run 4th by the Tigers aided by errors, balks, and walks. Tigers finish with half the hits but take advantage all day of poor Dodger play. Dodgers have 1st/3rd and 2nd/3rd in successive innings with no outs and fail to score.

Around the League: Tommy Henrich punches a homer for the Yanks and Bobo Newsom gets the win despite giving up 4. Red Sox lose their third straight in a close one to Jim Hearn and the Cards.
