Back in the Series...
After the Rays went up 3-0 in the ALCS it looked like a coronation but instead it became a competition as the White Sox came back to win the next two and for much of the night it looked like they'd force a Game 7. But late magic from the Rays capped by a series-ending walk-off homer from Diego Cartaya leading off the bottom of the 9th gave Tampa Bay the AL pennant and a date with the Diamondbacks as the drive for back-to-back titles remained intact. First they had to overcome yet another lousy John Swanda start as the Cy Young candidate has let his late-September struggles carry over to the postseason. Fortunately the bullpen was brilliant, holding the White Sox at 4 and buying time for the comeback. Taj Bradley had his second excellent long relief outing, and Jovani Moran got a big out to end a White Sox threat in the 7th. This enabled them to tie it in the 8th on Ozzie Albies' double, setting the stage for Cartaya's heroics. Now it's on to Game 1 of the Series against Arizona with Luis Castillo getting the ball right here in St. Pete.
