			Came over from SOM and started way late as a first time OOTP player in OOTP23--like November. Got to Diamond and to a winning record there a few seasons. 
Really just took tuning up a bronze tournament team that I spammed, always playing perfect drafts, doing missions when they made sense, and being patient on card purchases/sales for the best value. 
 
 
Really wasn't that hard and I never spent anything beyond the price of the software, and didn't start until November. The learning curve was a lot less steep than SOM. 
 
 
The black-box game engine is a little difficult to pin down for how to value cards, but that is what the client game can be for--to sim test cases. 
 
 
I mean if you think you should be competitive just by happenstance, then what fun is that anyway.  
 
 
 
It seems to me you either have to: 
F2P:  invest time 
P2P:  invest $ (or both time and $)
