Team Introduction / Initial Path Forward Plan

Let's start with a brief rundown of the team by position starting with the Forwards:

Kevin Hayes, Travis Konecny, Joel Farabee & Scott Laughton are all signed to long contracts and we won't be trying to force a non-hockey trade involving these guys,

James van Riemsdyk is an obvious trade piece seeing as he is on that expiring contract. We won't look to move him right away by any means, but we won't wait too long as risk him getting hurt either.

Here is a look at our (healthy) Dmen to start the season:

Ivan Provorov, Rasmus Ristolainen & Travis Sanheim (8yr extension after this season) are all locked in relatively long term.

Tony DeAngelo was a free agent signing this offseason and we won't really be looking to move him until this upcoming offseason.

Justin Braun may be on an expiring contract, but wouldn't fetch much of a return anyways, so we will likely run him out there all season.

We have A LOT of injured players to start the season:

Ryan Ellis has 4 more years on his contract after this season. We would love for him to get healthy to just suit up and eat some minutes on the backend.

Cam Atkinson has 2 more years on his contract after this season. IF he can get healthy, he might be another guy we could move next offseason.

Bobby Brink was the 34th overall pick in 2019. We would love for him to get a shot in the middle six forward group if/when he gets healthy.

Sean Couturier is also locked up long term (8yrs and a no trade clause to boot). I've also loved his game and we expect him to be with us for quite some time in this sim.

Felix Sandstrom looks to be a solid backup goalie, but we will likely need to claim a goalie at the start of the season to backup.

Speaking of goalies, our starting goalie is none other than Carter Hart.

He is only signed for this year and next for ~ $4million. We would love to lock him up long term eventually, but we can slow play this for a bit.

All that being said, there isn't much we can do right at this moment. The goal is to make small additions to the team to hopefully help them remain competitive and try to source out good hockey trades.
The waiver wire will be our friend and I'd like to upgrade our bottom D pair / bottom six forward with some veterans (if possible).

Also, we do have Cam York (14th overall in 2019) starting the season in the AHL and ideally he fills that left side spot on the 3rd pair D before long.

We have a couple young forward prospects in the AHL to start the season, so there is some promising talent coming!

Next update will likely be around January 1st to give an update of our progress so far!

As always, thanks for reading and please comment with any suggestions for this dynasty!
