The commish could just set a time for the sim to take place each day, kind of like how PT has a scheduled sim. You could also take a page out of S+'s book and have sortable leaderboards (including picking time spans), which are super awesome and helpful. I'm sure some solo offline players would even utilize this system.
I would love for the game to get to the point of running on dedicated servers rather than relying on file transfers and manual steps done by commissioners. This would improve a lot of aspects of the current online league experience.

* Transactions and drafts can be done in real-time in-game.
* Game scheduling can be much more flexible and on an automated schedule.
* A full-featured web interface could be developed.
* News stories could have much more variety using generative AI.
* Exploits having to do with re-downloading the league files would be fixed.

There are also many challenges and risks involved.

* A new subscription payment model would need to be set up.
* The number of new entities and business rules required would be significant.
* A lot of new infrastructure would be required to host the data needed to drive the views and also the processes involved to run sims on the server rather than client machines.
* Depending on how clean the presentation logic is written, it would potentially require a full rewrite of the UI layer of the native application.
* The amount of resources needed for support would be substantial.
* GMs would no longer be able to interact with the game without an internet connection.

I'm sure the actual devs know of a lot more hurdles.
