PBE Weekly Recap Thread

This thread will be maintained by myself as a weekly update thread of the Pro Baseball Experience dynasty. This first post is merely information as to what the league is so I can spit out names, terms, etc. without having to constantly explain myself.

The PBE is a large (500+ users) simulated baseball league that simulates using Out Of The Park 23, where every user that joins creates a player, is drafted, and progresses through a career that they set for themselves by earning TPE through doing tasks. We have a monetary system, contracts that can be signed, jobs you can work in, and everyone’s favorite: equipment and training to purchase. As with real life sports the league has awards, all star festivities, stat junkies, hype beasts, and most importantly merchandise. To the average reader, though, things like this don’t necessarily matter. Let’s get into who and what composes the league.

There are two leagues. The minor leagues, which draft new players onto 10 different teams every season. These players then begin their careers on these teams for a season, where they begin to learn the ropes of the league and immerse themselves into the fabric and camaraderie of the Pro Baseball Experience. Then there’s the major leagues, which draft players that have been in the minors for a season. The majors teams will then call each player up as they need them, but can only keep a player down in the minors for four seasons after they’re drafted. The majors teams are responsible for contracts, free agency, and a lot of other operations, whereas the minors are more simple and straightforward, similar to the NBA G-League in real life.

Enough unimportant stuff though. Let’s meet the teams, starting with the minors teams. Only current teams are listed, though there has been some expansion/contraction and rebranding throughout league history.

Minors Teams:

There are 10 teams in the minors, split into two 5-team conferences:

East:
  • Florida Flamingos
  • State College Swift Steeds
  • Puerto Rico Ranas
  • Chicago Kingpins
  • Louisville Lemurs
West:
  • Anchorage Wheelers
  • Amarillo Armadillos
  • Kansas City Hepcats
  • California Firehawks
  • Brew City Bears

Notes:
  • The reigning league champion is the Florida Flamingos, who defeated the Puerto Rico Ranas in the minors world series.
  • The Amarillo Armadillos have the most rings in the league with 7
  • The Louisville Lemurs and Puerto Rico Ranas have never won a ring.
  • The league gives out the Emi Memorial Award at the end of each season to commemorate one of the great league users who unfortunately lost a battle with cancer. It awards the minor league player who has made the most impact on the league.
  • Each team has a discord server and is managed by a GM or Co-GMs to help each player succeed and achieve their goals, while offering build advice, tips for earning, and pushing for league activity.

Majors Teams:

There are 16 total majors teams. There are two conferences, Legends and Champions. Each conference is broken up into two divisions. They are as follows:

Legends Conference:

East:
  • New York Voyagers
  • Outer Banks Aviators (commonly referred to as OBX)
  • Providence Crabs
  • Buffalo Surge

West:
  • San Antonio Sloths
  • Vancouver Vandals
  • Boise Raptors
  • Maui Makos

Champions Conference:

East:
  • Lunar Base Space Rangers
  • Nashville Stars
  • Detroit Demons
  • Indianapolis Apex

West:
  • Death Valley Scorpions
  • Cancun Toros
  • New Orleans Rougarous
  • Seattle Sea Serpents

Notes:
  • Nashville, who was viewed as one of the most cursed (bad luck) franchises in league history just won the majors world series last season, their first ring as a franchise. They defeated the Providence Crabs.
  • The Maui Makos, Lunar Base Space Rangers, and Buffalo Surge have never won a championship.
  • The San Antonio Sloths and Death Valley Scorpions are the two winningest teams in PBE history, each with 8 championships and sporting the two overall best winning percentages in league history.
  • The Vancouver Vandals won 5 rings in a row from seasons 2-6, but have not won a championship since.
  • Each team has a discord server and is managed by a GM or Co-GMs to help each player succeed and achieve their goals, while offering build advice, tips for earning, and pushing for league activity.

To conclude, this thread will be a weekly update as to the league happenings of the PBE, both minors and majors. I will be highlighting important league trends and recapping our sims (broadcast live on Twitch using OOTP23) weekly. Full disclosure, I have an active league player, Benny Sheets, who is a starting pitcher for the Nashville Stars of the majors (and former starter for the Chicago Kingpins of the minors). With that said, I will try to remain as unbiased as possible, and will simply be acting as a kinda “beat reporter” for the league.

Quick Recap Of Recent League Activities:
  • We are currently in the offseason.
  • Florida won the minors World Series
  • Nashville won the majors World Series
  • Both the minors and majors drafts just concluded. There were approximately 50 players in each draft.
  • Regression just set in, which is where players that have been playing for 10 or more seasons lose TPE in order to simulate aging patterns of real life baseball (obviously you’ll regress more the longer you’ve been in the league)
  • The league also had its awards stream this afternoon, where users across the league act as voters to select silver sluggers, gold gloves, MVPs, ROTYs, and POTYs. I won’t go into the specifics of each award, but the races as a whole were very close across both the minors and majors.
  • The Tahini Classic is coming up next Tuesday and will be streamed live on Twitch. This is a once per season single elimination tournament featuring all the minors and majors teams in a bracket. Users have the opportunity to submit brackets (similar to March Madness) to win PBE money as a competition.

Thank you for reading the post! I will have more PBE content coming weekly as Season 38 of the Pro Baseball Experience gets under way (in a much less messy format).
