But what happens next time the mlb/mlbpa licenses are due again and one or both finds a lucrative exclusive deal they like somewhere else? Not saying it's that likely but I just know it would suck if it did

MLB has shown less than zero interest in signing an exclusive licensing deal for video games in the past, so there's no reason to think they'll go that route moving forward. The only concern would be them jacking up the price to extend the license whenever the current one for OOTP expires. But MLB is making plenty of money already, so it's hard to imagine greed would make an MLB license an issue in the future.
Also, as has been stated time and time again, the issue with the league in question is not a copyright issue. It's a license issue. Hosting mods with anything from that league is kinda pointless right now if future versions of the game have the same "scramble code" as what was just introduced in OOTP23 last month. And unless OOTP somehow gets a license for that league, you can pretty much bet your house that the scramble code will exist moving forward. You can download all the mods you want and anything else for that league, but once you put them in your game, you better have some toast to go with those scrambled eggs.
