I am doing research for the 1986 draft for my NBA 2K game and I don’t think I ever realized that Brad Daugherty entered UNC as a 16 year old freshman or that he did not start playing basketball until the 10th grade.

He held his own his first two years at UNC and then blossomed his Junior year.
I had no idea he was a college teammate of Jordan and Sam Perkins.

I knew he was a teammate of Kenny Smith since Kenny has brought him up before.


He turned into a very good NBA player before back injuries began to take their toll by the 92-93 season and he would have to retire at age 30 after not playing since the 93-94 season.

He is kind of forgotten about now. I had no idea he began college at 16. That was very cool to find out about.

That 1984 Tar Heel team may have been the best never to reach the Final 4.

Perkins 2time All-Am and one of the 1st stretch 4's before there was a stretch 4.
Daugherty, future 5 time all Star & consensus all-Am.
Kenny Smith, consensus All-Am & starter for 2 time NBA Champ,
