Cards news: July 23 -- Three Cardinals are named to All-Star game

The St. Louis Cardinals will be sending three players to the All-Star game as members of the National League team.
First baseman Paul Goldschmidt and center fielder Cedric Mullins will be part of the NL's starting lineup. Ryan Helsley has made the team as a relief pitcher.
It is Goldschmidt's seventh trip to the All-Star game and his first as a Cardinal. His previous six coming while he was a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
This season, Goldschmidt, 35, has played in 89 game and hit .298 with 19 homers, 57 RBIs and 65 runs scored. He has gotten on base at a .418 clip and owns a .533 slugging percentage.
In his first season in St. Louis, Mullins, 28, is going to his second All-Star game. He previously made the game in 2021 while with Baltimore.
This season, Mullins has played in 89 games during which he has hit .271 with nine homers with 45 RBIs and 56 runs scored. He owns a .343 on-base percentage and slugged at a .521 clip.
This is the first All-Star game for the 28-year-old Helsley.
The right-hander has pitched in 28 games, during which he has gone 1-4 with 10 saves and a 2.20 ERA. He has pitched a total of 32.2 innings, during which he struck out 54 and posted a 1.16 WHIP.
