Collegiate Pyramid – 1903 Season
Roll Tide! Yikes… feels gross even jokingly typing that. 2-time champion Mississippi State fell to mid-table, Duke & San Diego State (who actually finished 3 spots ahead of Mississippi State at 5th) managed to stay afloat in the topflight, and Clemson & Texas A&M have been asked to pack up their things and leave. The Crimson Tide boasted the 7th rated offense, paired it with the 1st ranked staff & defense, and somehow, some way, came up smelling roses in the end…
Tuscaloosa looks like a happening town… $64 a night gets you a room at the closest Econo Lodge in Northport, AL… check out this view from the balcony..
You could walk across the lot for a
Filet-O-Fish at the McD’s, maybe do a vanilla cone if the ice cream machine is up & running… looks like there’s also a swank little dive bar called the Copper Top that
allows pets (or rats, picture is blurry, it’s hard to tell). Not sure if they have high life on tap though… could be a deal breaker if they don’t. All in all, Tuscaloosa looks like it’ll make a fine home for the D1 Championship.

Player Notes
-LF Chris Steed (San Diego State) became the first player to hit four round trippers out of the park during a single game. He did it during a 14-4 route against Duke and was directly responsible for 8 of those runs… Not sure if that’s a team record… must not be as it’s not called out in the box score.
-SS Ezra Elliot (Ole Miss) and 1B Dylan Smith (Duke) each hit for the cycle. Elliot’s was during a 14-inning affair, and his homer that completed the cycle came during the bottom of the 14th frame, a 3-run MOONSHOT to put this one to bed, 5-2. So, that’s the second walk-off cycle I’ve seen in this save. Is that like Meg-Millions, winning numbers lucky, or does this sort of thing happen a lot?
-Four players hit 35+ TANKS this season with Clark Herbert (Georgia Tech) blasting out 53 HR.

Pyramid Notes:
-Texas A&M and Clemson were voted off the island, sent to the second tier, and will be replaced by Maryland and North Carolina, respectively. I kinda dig that the Tarheels are up here with Duke… they’re all blue bloods though, amirite? Also, I just realized that I didn’t add the Oregon Ducks to a tier. So… I’m bouncing Santa Clara and replacing them with Eugene’s favorite sons.
I’m sorry Steve Nash, please forgive me.
-Port Chester University defeated Pacific Tech, 7-4, making them the 4th different winner in as many runs of the tournament.
