I don’t disagree that it could and should have been handled better, from the standpoint of those who enjoy playing with that league and those players. But again, if there was no way to negotiate use, the legal advice was probably sound, if brutal to the developers. They were just trying to protect OOTP from liability.
And again, this would never happen, if a reasonable licensing fee could have been negotiated. I am confident that OOTP [or its corporate parent] would have tried to accomplish that. But it takes two to tango, and it does not sound like there was any cooperation on the other side. As in, maybe the league is planning its own game, or granting exclusive rights to somebody else? That’s beyond the control of OOTP and its legal team.

OOTP even with a good "deal" would have no reason to accept anything for the 23 game...it would just be lost money. Business wise it would make more sense to nuke 23 and then do a deal for 24 if they wanted to. But all of the above is speculation. There is no lawsuit, there is no threat of lawsuit according to anything. They were asked to take it down. They did it. They have not commented. We have their actions. That is it. But if you want to say they were not the bad guy and due to a lawsuit being threatened, that means they were likely doing something illegal. So they are a bad guy in that situation too. They are protecting themselves with their silence and actions. Burn all evidence!
