As a long time customer who has played this game since 2003 (on the boards since 2004), I find this news disappointing. However, I do empathize with Markus and the OOTP developers as their hands were tied. Having the non-steam version of OOTP23, I personally chose not to apply the latest patches.
We've come a long way from the days of "It's YOUR game, play it your way."
