I just saw a top-5 international FA sign a contract worth $80,000 w/ the Brewers in my league.

My guess would be the player felt he had a better path to the pros based on the depth of the minor league organization of the team he signed for. Many young FA's will occasionally state this in emails when negotiating contracts and refuse to continue negotiations based on this alone.

It's also just as likely that CPU teams (especially small market teams) have a built-in advantage to signing international amateurs to prevent human teams (and larger market teams) from snatching up all of the best players every year.
