I believe the Cardinals had the best record in baseball in 2004, and they led the 2013 World Series 2 games to 1. Cardinals should have won both those series.

You did get some retribution in 2006 when you were just 83-78, winning a weak division and getting hot at the right time, and in 2011 when you were a strike away from losing in two separate innings. Somehow you won both of those World Series.

Just like how the Yankees winning in 2009 softened the crushing blows of losing 2001 & 2003 World Series and the 2004 ALCS, and then losing in the ALDS three straight seasons from 2005-2007.
