Philadelphia pitcher Preacher Roe gave 7 strong innings but Detroit's George Kell hit a 2 run HR in a 4 run 9th inning to give Detroit a 5-3 win and a 2-1 game lead in the series.
Game #4 in Philadelphia
Detroit took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the 5th inning when Duke Snider and Hank Sauer hit solo HRs before Luke Easter hit a triple and later scored. The 3 run inning helped Dizzy Trout, who pitched 7 innings for Philadelphia, as they won 4-2 win to even the series.

Philadelphia pitcher Dave Pope got 14 K's and pitched 8 innings giving up just 4 hits and with the Detroit up 1-0 in the bottom of the 5th, men on 2nd and 3rd, Dave Pope hit a 2 run triple, he would later score, to give Philadelphia a 3-1 lead. Philadelphia would add a run in the bottom of the 8th and after Eddie Joost hit a solo HR in the top of the 9th for Detroit, but that was all as Philadelphia won 4-3 to take a 3-2 game lead.

Needing a win Detroit sent Game 2 winner Whitey Ford to the mound and he pitched 8 innings of 5 hit ball as Detroit scored the only runs in the bottom of the first to win 3-0 and force a game 7.
