2024 Postseason Recap
For the 2nd time in 4 years and the 5th in franchise history, the Atlanta Braves are World Champions.
It was a dominant performance with the Braves dropping Game 2 of the NLDS to the Reds before ripping off 10 straight wins. It all culminated with a sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays. Yoan Moncada, a trading deadline pickup from the White Sox, earned MVP honors after batting .353 while hitting 3 HRs and driving in 10 runs.
The Rays continue to just hang around and this year came oh so close to taking home the Commisioner’s Trophy. They spoiled a dream of a season for the Angles to earn an ALCS bid where they were able to overthrow the Red Sox who had stolen the pennant from them just a few months earlier.
It was a bloody Saturday following the Braves World Series title. Four well known managers were sent packing. A.J. Hinch was fired from Detroit after an awful 60-102 campaign. Just a year after winning 90 games, Joe Girardi was sent packing by the Phillies. David Ross’s name was added to the departed list following his first losing season as manager since 2021. The biggest news though came from the nation’s capital where the Nats officially parted ways with Dave Martinez following Washington’s 2nd straight losing season. The World Series winning manager will likely find a home somewhere before too long.
Guardians GM Mike Chernoff was the only general manager to be sent to the chopping block this off-season. What an honor.
