Indianapolis beat up on St. Louis spot starter Cory Birks for two runs in the top of the third inning and five more in the fourth to propel the Racers to an 8-4 win at Busch Stadium (2006).
The game was scheduled to be the second game of a doubleheader, but the opening game was rained out.
The teams will play a doubleheader on April 28.
Alex Horta put Indy in front 2-0 with a two-run homer off Birks in the top of the third.
An inning later, pounded out five hits and benefitted from a walk and a wild pitch in scoring five times.
Victor Sessions provided the big blow with a three-run homer to cap the scoring.
Before that, Sergio Flores had driven in the inning's first run with a double.
The other scored on a Birks wild pitch.
The River Walkers did get back into the game with a three-run bottom of the fifth against Racers starting pitcher Axel Kalman.
Kalman allowed five straight batter to reach base to open the inning -- allowing three straight singles followed by a pair of walks.
The inning's first run scored on a Quiang Chang single. The second on a bases-full walk to Carlos Martines.
Chang scored the third run when he scored on a passed ball charged to catcher Sergio Flores.
Noah Smith drove in the game's final run with a two-out single off St. Louis reliever Nick Thiel in the seventh.
Kalman lasted 4.1 innings, allowing four runs in six hits. He struck out four and walked four.
Danny Munos finished off the fifth for Indy.
Four relievers all pitched an inning apiece -- Jayden Prater, Edwin Cervantes, Jimmy DaPra and Marshall Hornsby -- to close out the game.
Prater (3-0) got the win.
