Walkers news: April 25 -- Indianapolis 3, St. Louis 2
Record: 8-15, 6th, 9 GB Des Moines
Tied 2-2, Noah Smith connected on an RBI double off St. Louis reliever Antonio Cruiz with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to score Matt Beagle to help Indianapolis to a 3-2 win over the River Walkers at Busch Stadium (2006).
Beagle had led off the inning with a single off reliver Curt Donaldson.
Donaldson retired the next batter before a 10-minute rain delay hit.
Cruiz replaced Donaldson after the delay.
He got Danny Ocampo to fly out for the second out.
But Smith lined a 3-2 pitch into the gap in left center and Beagle came around to score the tie-breaking run.
The Walkers' Manuel Coke hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the first off Racers starting pitcher Jason Mucci to give his team an early 2-0 lead.
Indy tied it with runs in the top of the second -- Jose Maldonaldo tripled off St. Louis starter Juan Farias and scored on a Dan Huff single -- and seventh -- Alex Horta led off with a single off Farias. He stole second and scored on a two-out single by pinch-hitter Vince Sessions off reliever Nick Thiel -- setting the Racers to win it late.
Mucci went six innings, allowing one run on two hits. He struck out five and walked two.
After that, it was an inning apiece from David Hinojasa, Marshall Hornby and Ramiro Canales to close out the Walkers.
Hornby (2-1) earned the win.
Canales collected his ninth save.
