BRAND NEW YEAR FOR SUPREME LEAGUE... OPENS ITS 5TH SEASON WITH FEWER TEAMS
Welcome to the 1959 South Island Supreme League opening weekend.
For the next 14 weekends 8 clubs will be fighting tooth-and-nail for the league crown... 4 clubs have fallen to the wayside in the South Island Supreme League.
Sunday afternoon the 8 remaining clubs opened the brand spanking new season before good crowds... last year's title winner Meraux kicked off the new season with a 4-1 triumph on the road over the Mystic Mariners... two of the top teams dueled at Jackson Park and the visiting Delta Stars came away with a 3-2 squeaker over the Jackalopes... newcomer New Yerby promoted from the Secondary League showed well with an 8-4 victory over the Bar Harbor Acadians... and in a slugfest at Zebulon, the Zips powered past the St. Dominic Saints 10-9.
