I think I have a solution. My website provider apparently on early Tuesday AM removed Passive FTP Mode as an option from uploading files and failed to communicate this. Even the Tech Support person admits they were surprised about this. So that makes two material changes, but now we found the culprit.
At their recommendation, I switched to Active FTP Mode, and that appears to have worked.
