Diaz came 2 blown saves short of the all-time record for blown saves in a season -14. But, since 5 closers actually share the record of 14 BS 40+ years ago (back in the 70's/80's when closers pitched 2 plus innings and, naturally, would be more likely to blow 14 saves)
it's perfectly plausible
It's perfectly plausible that, arguably the best closer in the game, in his prime, could almost match it while never pitching more than 1 inning. Diaz and his 5/5 stars (I still wonder if those stars mean anything in this game). Oh yeah, he had a down right studly ERA of 6.33.
Someone needs to really argue that, "Geesh Dcordash you're a fool for rolling this guy out there in the 9th inning after his 8th or 9th blown save". And, I would say, I'm a fool all right..for continuing to believe in this game.
I'm attaching his stats for the year and what the franchise still owes this 29 year old that appears to be done. I'm just going to release him and eat the $23 million. Figure it fits the tenor of the game in general. And close the book on the 2023 version of OOTP.
