Regardless of the AI, OOTP is never going to get trades 100% perfect. Major League Baseball can't get them perfect, how can a PC game? Articles concerning bad or strange trades are plentiful. Books could be written on bad trades.
To take it a step further, the list of star players that were cut from a team early in their career or went undrafted is rather lengthy.
No matter how one decides to play OOTP, it's fictional.
