Going by the league's own policy, I have a feeling Watson is only going to get 4-8 weeks. But regardless of what he gets, the Browns did Watson a solid. They structured his contract with a suspension in mind. His base pay is only 1M for 2022. That's the most he can lose even if he's suspended all year.

If he does break out this year in Carolina, they still probably won't make the playoffs and then they have the choice of tagging him and paying him $35M on a one year deal or extending him on something like the Ryan Tannehill or Kirk Cousins contract.

If they had a really good young core and just needed a QB to put them over the top it would make sense (though if that were the case they probably would have been in on Matt Ryan or maybe Jimmy G), but as it is there is very little upside. Granted the cost is nearly nothing, so it could be worth it just to be less embarrassing this year since he should be more watchable than Darnold/Corral.
I don't know what the Panthers are thinking. They're not a QB away. They just drafted Corral. They really need to see if he works out first. Maybe they want him to sit behind Baker for a year, then send Baker to the highest bidder in 2023?

Even if Baker does well, the last thing they want to do is pay him 40M a year before knowing how Corral can play. I think Baker is pretty good, but I wouldn't pay a QB top dollar just to be good.
