It is just an awful game to be GM only cause there isnt a whole lot of actual gameplay stuff to do.
Yeah I also agree there is way too customization. Yes a lot of the "old guard" like it. But I would wager the majority play present MLB quickstart. So why carry so many options?
Have quickstart mlb for real and fictional. Then just have historical real and fictional. Why is there a need to design all of these crazy league formats? Promotionj/Regelation? Why introduce more stuff into the puzzle if OOTPD is "SUCH A SMALL DEV SHOP" which is what we hear time and time again.
Have a handful of standard setup options and focus on difficulty sliders like say games like BattleTech. Especially how they do their ironman mode and compare user stats destroys so called "challenge mode". Makes it look like a kids toy.
Lot of strategy, management, sim games have difficulty sliders. You want to give % bonus to AI while restricting user %. Finances, contracts, ratings etc. That is what makes games difficult now turning off game play features.
Which is what i hear on the board all the time. Turn of rule 5, turn off scouting, use stats only, use house rules etc.
How about no. How about actually make difficulty sliders like every video game from the NES era even had.
Again great game as a lego sandbox or daily manager. But I would give it a D- as a GM game. There aint nothing to do.
