I use Macrium Reflect. I've used it for 6 or 7 years and never had an issue. It's a great option. I think there might be a free version. There are other free options, including the one that comes with the operating system.

I have a NAS, so in addition to backing up the whole PC, I also copy the save folder to the NAS when I think it's a good time to do so. This could easily be done to an external drive. They aren't expensive. I think you can get a 2TB USB drive for about $75.

I might use OOTPs backup option once, but I don't use it as my primary option.
