I might add a few things that might interest you. As has already been mentioned, you can start on the current date, or any previous date. The stats and standings will be updated. You do not have to use Minor Leagues, but if you do this includes the Minor Leagues as well. All the stats and standings in the Minors will be the current. Also, if you want to play the season as it goes in a realistic manner, you can set the league, so the AI does not make roster changes, and then manually make any transactions as the season progresses. I have tried this before and it can be a lot of work, because you have to enter the transactions each day as they happen, but you can do this. Also, if you use Minor Leagues, it can be hard to find all the Minor League transactions.

You can also update the ratings based on the stats for this season at anytime, so players are updated to be more in tune with the way they are currently playing. As has already been mentioned OOTP is not a replay game like Strat-O-Matic, but I have always found it does a decent job as a real world simulation.

I am one who used to play APBA, Stat-O-Matic, Diamond Mind, etc., but OOTP is my game of choice these days.
