Viable? It's the company's only vertical, and it's why they continue to nerf F2P to drive pack purchases. If anything, development of PT will take away other resources developing the stand alone game. Micro transactions are the future and they are a cash cow. The only challenge is to get a guy like me to drop 20.00 on new content releases every other week vs. just saying to hell with this and walking away because it's just too hard to keep up and stay competitive.
zynga released numbers years ago showing that like 10 percent of the player base paid all of the bills. These guys aren't ignorant to that and I guarantee that all development going forward is to maximize pack purchasing rather than giving any benefit at all to F2P players, who they already considered over privileged (evidenced by the team truly believing they could just nerf rewards across the board with no blowback).
You can see it in the weekly releases, as the new bronzes and silvers are clearly better than existing cards despite being in the same ratings range. It's a direct copy of the Madden ultimate team playbook.
For me personally, I'm running a franchise on the stand alone game as an expansion team and really enjoying the improvements over last year in trading and some other small improvements. It's enough of an upgrade over last year to certainly justify the cost. As for perfect team? I'm done spending money on this completely preventable absolute dumpster fire of a disaster. I'll come back in a month to check on my teams that are now in auto pilot and spend any accumulated coin on packs just for the thrill of the lottery ticket, and then I'll shelve it. I won't spend any money like I did last year so that I can continually be slapped in the face.
But hey....thanks for the free diamond pack last week. Totally makes up for everything.
