MBL news: February 12 -- Saavedra signs minor-league deal with Peoria
The Peoria Rivermen have announced the signing of former St. Louis River Walkers third baseman Bob Saavedra to a minor-league contract.
Saavedra was let go by St. Louis at the start of the offseason, in order to allow Mark Herman to move to third base and Mark Waterson to move to center to left field.
Saavedra, 27, spent four seasons as the starting third baseman for the Walkers beginning in 2035 when he won National League Rookie of the Year honors.
That season, Saavedra hit .336 with 14 homers, 90 RBIs and 100 runs scored. He also led the NL with 220 hits.
Saavadra enjoyed another big season in 2037, when he hit .324 with 18 homers, 70 RBIs and 102 runs scored.
In a little over four seasons with the Walkers, Saavedra hit .307 with 49 homers, 292 RBIs and 381 runs scored.
In 2038, he hit .274 with eight homers, 59 RBIs and 86 runs scored.
