Walkers news: Sept. 27 -- St. Louis 4, Rockford 3, 12 innings
Record: 89-68, 3rd, 4.5 GB Springfield
Pinch-hitter Manuel Coke connected on one-out single in the top of the 12th inning to score pinch-runner Rece Hinds with what proved-to-be the game-winning run in a 4-3 St. Louis win over Rockford at RFK Stadium (2005).
The victory kept the River Walkers in the National League South Division race, as they sit in third-place 4.5 games behind first-place Springfield with five games remaining.
Zach Wenman had led off the top of the 12th with a single off Lightning relief pitcher Travis Gettemy.
Hinds replaced Wenman and he moved to second on a Daylen Reyes bunt.
Coke then connected on his single, driving a 1-1 pitch from Gettemy into right field.
St. Louis jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a base-loaded double by Jordan Quinto off Rockford starting pitcher Luke Madden.
The Lightning fought their way back into it tying the game when Wade Martin homered off Juan Munoz with one out in the top of the eighth.
That homer probably denied Walkers starting pitcher Ming Xiang his 15th win of the season.
Xiang went seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits. He struck out eight and didn't walk a batter.
Munoz (0.2 IP) and Greg Sones (1.0) combined to pitch that eighth inning.
Kyle Smarr worked two innings of relief without allowing a run.
Maximilliano Minelli (0.1 IP) and Ron Cox (0.2) divided up the 11th for St. Louis.
Despite allowing Rockford to load the bases in the 12th, Craig Fritzler picked up his 34th save.
