1933 Opening Day

Our team page can be accessed HERE.

We enter the season with the 2nd-highest payroll ($242k) and 3rd-lowest budget ($650k).

Our Opening Day squad will look like this:

Catchers
  • C Ray Hayworth (R)
  • C Earl Grace (R) v LHP and when Hayworth needs a rest

Youth gets the nod here with Earl having a super 1932 season at Wilkes-Barre

Infielders
  • 1B Jimmie Foxx (R)
  • 2B Willie Wells (R)
  • 3B Martin Dihigo (R)
  • SS Arky Vaughan (R)

  • Andy Reese (R)
  • Lonny Frey (L)
  • Mark Koenig (S)

Only injuries and the sharp dropoff from starters to backups concern me here.

Outfielders
  • LF Earl Combs (L)
  • CF Lloyd Waner (L)
  • RF Paul Waner (L)
  • Lefty O’Doul (L)
  • Maurice Archdeacon (L)
  • Kiddo Davis (R)

Deeper stocks here but still would prefer injuries are kept to a minimum.

Rotation
  • LHP Willie Foster
  • RHP Ted Trent
  • LHP Bill McCall
  • RHP Bobo Newsom

Paul Derringer is expected to return late in the season but our planning for the year has not included him. Bill Swift looks ready to come up and will almost certainly become part of this group at some stage of the season.

Bullpen
  • LHP Carl Fischer (MR)
  • RHP Joe Heving (MR)
  • RHP Oral Hildebrand (LR)
  • LHP Harry Hulihan (MR)
  • RHP Boom-Boom Beck (ST)

Ray Benge is about a month off returning and will eventually rejoin this group.

Did I mention how worried I am about injuries?
