I know this period of baseball was offense driven with entire teams hitting above .300, but I'm starting to wonder if random debut penalizes hitters from this period a little too much. For example, I've now seen Charlie Gehringer complete his entire career in two different random debut leagues. In each one, he was a career .270 type hitter with decent power, but in no way was he the sure fire Hall of Fame player he was in real life. I've had Gehrig be good but not great as well. Just curious as to what y'all think?
I dunno, DW. Every league I've ever had Gehrig and Chuck Klein in, they are beasts. I reckon Klein would be the first position player I'd draft in OOTP if given the choice of anyone. Same with Hornsby and Frisch although they're from slightly earlier. Gehringer is one of those guys who never really had standout seasons or periods, he was just solidly well above average year-in, year-out. That can often get lost in this game. Same thing happens with guys like Heilmann and Joe Sewell. Do you use recalc or just dev?
