Is defensive skill really valued as lowly relative to offensive skill in the real world as is represented in this game? Even among defensemen, the bias in the overall ratings in favor of offensive ability is very pronounced. On the one hand, I can see that you model goal creation and goal prevention as opposite sides of the same coin, skaters divide the whole goal creation portion among themselves but only the part of goal prevention not attributed to the goalie. On the other hand, I wonder if the stats-based ratings advantage offensive players (whether because offensive stats such as goals and assists are the greater part of the stats used and / or because even stats like plus-minus are biased towards offensive players due to the fact that their ice time is typically tilted towards offensive zone usage while the opposite is true for defense-oriented skaters).
