Reggie Sanders

LAKELAND -- In the players' parking lot at Plant City, it's easy to spot Reggie Sanders' car. It's the white Z with the South Carolina plates in the back and a Cincinnati Reds novelty plate in the front that says, "Reggie." Say this for Sanders: Other people may have doubts whether he's ready to take Eric Davis' place in center field, but clearly he isn't one of them. You say he's had just 78 games of Double-A experience, three years' experience playing the outfield? Sanders suggests you stop looking in the rear-view mirror and concentrate on the road ahead. "I don't want people to expect me to do what Eric did -- hit 40 home runs, do this, do that," Sanders said Saturday. "Let Reggie Sanders go out and play and judge him on that."

The Reds are loaded with outfielders: Bip Roberts and Paul O'Neill will start in left and right, respectively. Dave Martinez, a center fielder, was obtained from Montreal. Glenn Braggs and Billy Hatcher provide punch off the bench. If Sanders, a right-handed hitter, makes the club, he'll platoon with Martinez. But Piniella wants Sanders playing every day. If that means Triple- A, so be it. There's little question Sanders can be special when healthy. With his speed, he should steal 40 bases. "I'll put it to you this way: I've only been out there three years, but I play like I've been out there five or six years," Sanders said. It may be a matter of days, more likely months, at most a year. But count on this: Soon enough, Reggie Sanders will have a permanent parking place at Riverfront Stadium. - South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Mar 22, 1992:

In his 17-year Major League career, Reggie played 1,777 games; he had over 6,200 plate appearances with over 3,000 total bases, 983 runs batted in, 304 stolen bases, 305 home runs and a lifetime .267 batting average. He has the distinction of being one of only eight players in the history of Major League Baseball to both hit 300 or more home runs in his career while also stealing 300 or more bases.

I used the AZ photo to redo the facegen. The one in the pack now is smoother (and looks based off the Atlanta pic) and doesn’t look like one of the three you had. I should have put him an AZ hat for a better side-by-side look but he’s a Red in my mind’s eye.
