Note that several of those names come from former Cardinals and/or former Yankees. I thought since both the Cardinals and Yankees are arguably the two most storied franchises in the entire history of the game, at least in terms of overall World Series championships at this point in time, it might not be a bad idea at all to name certain divisions after certain players who played for them in their respective careers.
I'm not saying that certain other teams aren't themselves at least somewhat well-storied as well in their own histories, of course. But I just want to recognize the simple fact here that the Yankees and Cardinals each have the most World Series titles won to date in each of their respective leagues, that's all, in terms of naming certain divisions after certain famous players who may or may not have actually played for either franchise so honored here.
