1911 - Under the Hood
- 1911 saw the A’s beat the Giants in the WS as Frank Baker earned his “Home Run” nickname with 11 round-trippers in the regular season and two more in the Fall Classic.
- Fred Luderus belted a respectable 84 homers in his mainly Deadball Era career, but never led the league in any one season. Same goes with RBI.
- Josh Devore’s 64 SB in r1 are incredibly close to his corresponding IRL stats, but it didn’t lead the league then, nor did he ever do so.
- Dave Foutz is not in the HOF.
- Neither Art Fromme nor King Cole ever threw a no-no.
- Fred “Cap” Clarke did just about everything you can in the game, but never won a batting title. Nor did Ed Konetchy.
- Larry Doyle led the league with 25 triples in 1911, but never in HR.
- Elmer Steele only had 3 saves all up IRL. Charley Hall, however, did lead the league with 3 saves in the corresponding IRL season.
- Tris Speaker hit for the cycle in 1912. Ty Cobb, as I mentioned previously, never did. Nor did Sherry Magee
- Bris Lord never led the league in trips.
- Bill Donovan did lead the league with 3 SV in 1901, but only had a total of 8 IRL.
- Doc Crandall never won an ERA title.
- Lew Richie???!!!
