Maybe pitching against his old team was all it took for Johnny Soland, the righty who was so good in the regular season (MLB's only 20-game winner) to turn in an excellent postseason start after being bombed in his previous three. Whatever the reason Soland was the story today, fanning 9 including the final three he faced in the 7th to finish with a flourish. Doug Johns supplied the offense with a solo homer and RBI single as he's been insanely productive in limited action during these playoffs with 4 HR and 11 RBI in only 26 AB. Once again things got a bit too interesting in the 9th but Freddy Zamora got out of a jam unscathed to preserve the win as he also recovers from a poor start to the postseason. So the Rays now go to Cincinnati up 2-0 and start ALCS Game 7 hero Jose Mendoza to try to take a near-insurmountable series lead.
