Reorganization to Remain Relevant Results in Mundys Morass
It has become my habit of late to only make changes after the playoffs on Sunday evening, after spending Sunday morning opening packs and, on occasion, completing the odd mission. However, I was off on Friday, and, in an effort to move out of relegation, I opened my stash of packs and spent close to 100K (almost half for Yogi) to try and get some more "meta-like" players into the lineup, ending up adding Collins at second, the aforementioned Yogi, and Arky Vaughn (who had been on the roster until I got Campaneris for short), as well as deGrom on the mound. It resulted in a 10-20 record, the team's worst performance of the year. My desperation to delay demotion from diamond has seemingly failed. With that in mind, I am going forward with an idea that has been at the back of my mind for awhile. I'm gonna start playing favorites, whatever the results. The team will find its level over the last weeks of PT 22.
Of course Willie Mays is first. After that, the criteria will be highly scientific. For example, we had a wiffle ball league when I was around 8-years-old and my team was the Cardinals. We made our own jerseys from T-shirts and mine was Musial. Therefore, Stan makes the squad.
There was a mechanic at our local gas station where I used to go with a jug to buy kerosene for a heater who looked just like Yogi Berra, so Yogi is in. Also, I loved Berra's "Me-hee for Yoo-hoo," commercials on TV when I was little (I'm talking late '50's). By the way, I was like five or six when I used to walk to get that kerosene. Different world.
Bert Campaneris should remain because I loved the Athletics first green and gold uniform combinations. Also, my Strat-O-Matic play-by-mail team, from the 14 years leading up to 2000 has players for me to consider like Ozzie, Smoltz, Rijo, Kile. I will limit myself to 100 level players, just because I have so may cards. I also read tons of baseball history when I was younger, so there are some old-timers that are favorites.
My, I do go on. Just wanted to let you know I'm not tanking, just trying to have some fun at the end here.
