I'd try a minor retool:

I think it was a mistake to re-sign Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, though his contract is good value. I see him as a luxury player for the Oilers. He'd be the first player I'd try to move. Montreal could be a target - they need a center and have lots of interesting wingers. Toffoli, Hoffman, Anderson... even Drouin... would balance out the roster and give you the makings of two scoring lines.

Defence... Duncan Keith was a valiant attempt to add character and winning experience to the team. Might not mean much in the game. Darnell Nurse is about to be overpaid but he is a unique player and the Oilers certainly don't have anything like him in the pipeline. I think Evan Bouchard makes Tyson Barrie expendable. I'd be looking to move Barrie ASAP for a defenceman who can play defence. Not sure if Barrie would return much in reality. I suppose you could settle for trading Bouchard instead. The window is now for Draisaitl and McDavid.

I don't think settling for the Koskinen/Smith tandem was the blunder it's made out to be. Obviously it hasn't worked out, but it could in FHM (and there's still time for Koskinen to turn it around in real life). On paper, the Oilers are spending slightly more than the average team does on goaltending for two guys who are both capable of being average starters. You'd like to upgrade, but it's not priority number one.
