How is black a part of the mets overall scheme? I mean...I understand why there are alternate jerseys and caps and uniforms (money) but why do teams' stray from their actual color schemes?
"Darker is cooler" seemed to be a thing for a bit. I remember the Detroit Lions going through a phase where they introduced black into their color scheme as well as darkening the blue they used. It was their attempt at being taken more seriously.

The Mets did at least have some black in an alternate logo back when they introduced the black jerseys. Also, the Mets blue has even gotten a bit darker since they were formed.
