With the draft in the rear view mirror, and based upon updated depth charts for the team, we had some roster decisions to make as well as a few players from last year's draft who we hadn't gotten under contract yet and decided it was time.
To clear some roster and cap space we looked to move a few veterans. We were able to send 29-year old RD Timothy Duffy and his 4.6 million dollar contract along with 33-year old C Mikhail Veryugin and our 6th round pick in next year's draft to Toronto for their 4th round pick next year. Neither Duffy nor Veryugin did much for us, with the more expensive Duffy being particularly disappointing in his 30 games played, and they were both quite low on our depth charts.
We also signed C
Lance Williams, our 5th round draft pick from last year, to an entry level contract and he is expected to be our 4th line Center/re. Williams currently ranks as the 95th best prospect in the NHL.
With these moves in place we are largely ready for the upcoming season in terms of our roster and depth pieces.
