Request for Retro Style World Baseball Classic Caps, Jerseys, Logos and Ballparks
Some time ago, raysox at sportslogos.net, came up with an interesting concept: what if a tournament similar to the World Baseball Classic began play in March of 1953, rather than 2006.
In raysox' historical-fiction universe, the "World Baseball Cup" takes place every four years, with a different country serving as the host, and the teams playing in ballparks that were available at the time. Raysox wound up simulating 10 World Baseball Cup tournaments from 1953 through 1989, and created historically consistent tournament logos as well as baseball caps and jerseys for each of the participating teams. A total of eight teams participated in the inaugural tournament and by 1989 there were 12 countries competing for the coveted Cup.
His work, which is both meticulous and creative, can be found
here.
As an example, pictured below is raysox' take on the caps and, as you would expect, pullover jerseys used by Puerto Rico during the 1973 tournament, which took place just a few months after the death of baseball great Roberto Clemente, and appropriately enough includes a commemorative patch!
Sadly, raysox' work is not in a format which is recognized by the OOTP game and I simply do not have the skill set to create the ballparks, jerseys, caps and logos. So, I am turning to the OOTP community in the hopes that, with your help, we can make this happen.
Also, if we were to focus only on a particular decade, this would not be a large undertaking by any stretch of the imagination. For example, during the 1970s, only 10 different countries participated in the tournament, while an additional five countries competed during the 1980s. That's just 15 teams.
Incidentally, in case you are wondering, raysox has graciously granted us permission to use his work to create the logos, caps and jerseys.
Thanks for reading and, if you are able, for helping out with the work that needs to be done!
