We exercise the final year of Heinie Groh’s contract, but not that of Pops Lloyd. Both he and Les Nunamaker enter the FA market. Frank Baker does not opt out of his remaining contract years with us.

If you don’t think this game is tough on managers, try being Jimmy Bertolette, who after two WS appearances and a couple near misses over the past 4 seasons (not to mention a Championship in ’15 and winning record in each of the 7 seasons he was in charge) is cut by the Browns. Darby O’Brien is also let go by the A’s. Rudy Kling and Charlie Daugherty have been hired in their place.

Pretty low-key on the retirement front this year, with only Addie Joss and our old mate Zaza Harvey potentially HOF-bound. Former Pirates Buck Herzog and Scott Ingerton also call time on their playing days.

We actually hire Zaza as the Hitting Coach at our AAA franchise Wilkes-Barre.
