MY LIFE IN 1957
EC's Lookin' for Heaven in '57
OK, let's see what is going on in the USA in '57... I don't want all y'all to be behind times and out-of-date like EC is.
Cost of Living:
Average Wage: $4550
Average New House: $12,200
Average Monthly Rent: $90
Average New Car: $1900-$3400
Bread: .19 cents a loaf
Gas: .24 cents a gallon
Postage Stamp: .03 cents
Movie Admission Price: .65 cents
Major News and some Minor League News, too:
1. Sputnik 1 and Sputnik 2... first artificial satellites put in space by Russia... Laika was a dog in Sputnik 2.
2. Asian Flu killed 120,000 worldwide
3. European Common Market came into existence.
4. Toyota began to ship cars to the US... the Crown was the first car.
5. American Bandstand and Dick Clark debuted on ABC -TV
6. Velcro invented by Swiss inventor George de Menstral
7. AA batteries introducted by Eveready for transistor radios
8. Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants announced they were leaving for the West Coast and would be playing in Los Angeles and San Francisco in 1958 season... Dodgers left because the city would not build them a stadium.
9. The Frisbee was introduced by Wham-O... changed the name from the original name Pluto Platter... the original name was chosen to tie in with the UFO frenzy in the country... but never caught on until Wham-O called it the Frisbee.
10. Barry Gordy started Motown Records in Detroit on a $700 loan from his family (he asked for $1000 to start a jazz record company... his family said all they would give him was $700 and they charged him interest, too)... in 1988 Gordy sold Motown to MCA for $61 million.
You know I may have missed some of the most important events in life... don't think EC has ever thrown a Frisbee... never been on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Tik Tok, either... and EC has never texted.
Plus EC has a dumb phone, too.
EC is still lost in the 50's.

Woe is me... maybe I should rend my clothing.
