world_default.xml - gender field
I notice in world_default.xml file that each nation has a gender. That seems a little odd, but I'm guessing it's an artifact put in place for some possible future feature or for something that was abandoned. However, I thought I would ask if anyone knows whether it currently does something if it is set to a value other than zero.
I ask because—ignoring the problems with FaceGen and pronouns—I was thinking of ways of having randomly-generated female players show up in the game.
There seem to be two obvious solutions both starting with the creation of an "ethnicity" for female names. You could then:
1. Add the ethnicity to a Nation at whatever percentage is appropriate for what you are trying to achieve (.01% for surprises; 100% for AAGPBL)
OR
2 Create a fictional nation that uses only the female names ethnicity, then add it to a Nation as a Second Nation (specifying that second nation should use of the name set when that Second Nation is used); again at whatever percentage seemed appropriate.
I figure
#1 would be better if there were female name sets for each existing ethnicity. As an aside, it would really be better if the existing ethnicity name sets just included a gender flag that could take on multiple values so modders could make as many genders as they wanted and use different names for each; that would be the most flexible approach. Modders could then specify what the pronouns ought to be in each case.
#2 has the nice advantage of making it possible to identify female players if any are generated . . . and so circles back to why I was curious as to whether the gender setting for a nation does anything
