Back in the 1940s-1950s, there was a collegiate league, the Northern League, mainly in Vermont, but also with a few teams in NH. The league also existed from the mid 1930's until WWII, but was mainly a Vermont-NY league. These were the teams that took part:

Burlington Cardinals, Rutland Royals, Bennington Generals, Brattleboro Maples, St. Albans Giants, St. Johnsbury Yankees, Twin City (Barre-Montpelier) Trojans, Keene Bluejays, Claremont (NH) Pilots

I'd also suggest White River Junction (Conductors), Biddeford (Hugenots), Fitchburg (Finches), Holyoke (Paper Barons), Pawtucket (Slaters), and Brockton (Cobblers).
