I went back and did that(simmed 1978-79 season)) and the game crashed going from June 30th to July 1st. It can't be because of editing because I haven't started .

Going to try it on another PC .

If I get it working then I will manually move Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings to WHA and give NHL sub-par Toronto and Detroit expansion teams with the lowly Detroit team playing at Cobo Arena.
