The majority - though not all - of the comments in this thread are representative of the majority of U.S. society's beliefs, and thus explain why those who do not fall in strict line with the majority's thinking might feel the need to be coy... IOW, there are not many acceptable alternatives to simply conforming to the beliefs & edicts of the majority.
