Where is Carlton Fisk in my sim, you might ask? Right where he should be, at the Fens. Albeit now dropped to 8th in Don Zimmer's lineup, due to his slow start. (.227 BA as we head to Memorial Day.) Backed up by Alan Knicely, who is Knicely showing why he was available on waivers in the first place. (.200).

No Bostonian need worry about Rich Gedman, who's enjoying life in Baltimore. (Remember, he went wtih Ojeda and Barry Butera in the trade for Scott MacGregor; I can't complain about the MacGregor trade or even letting him walk to the Rangers, since Scott's $$ went to sign Larry Gura, who's been great. But that 1+player option deal for Gura worries me…if he walks at year's end, all that effort would be wasted.)

And Dave Malpeso doesn't need to think about Boston at all, of course. As mentioned, he's in Atlanta, waiting for his chance behind the nearly-fictional Stephen DeMatteis (highly rated off of a good weekend in the Beer League, or some nonsense). As it is, DeMatteis just wrecked the Mets' attempt to escape the cellar, hitting two home runs in Atlanta's victory.

Which means the Metsies wasted the first ML dinger from Bob Bathe, brother of Bill:

IRL, Bob was drafted by Oakland (as seen), but was obtained by the Mets in mid-'84 and put up a strong 1.5 seasons at Tidewater. But the Orange and Blue decided they were good with Howard Johnson, moving forward, and washed Bathe right out of their hair.

In the sim, NYN drafted Bathe themselves, and he's getting a shot since Hubie Brooks is hitting about 100 points below the .280 threshold he'd established the past two seasons. So Hubie's just caddying for Mookie in the outfield, right now, and the Mets are dipping a toe into the Bathe-waters.
