In 2018 the National Lacrosse League approved the relocation of the Rochester Knighthawks to Halifax, NS. The Knighthawks' intellectual property was then sold to Pegula Sports Entertainment (owners of the Buffalo Bills, Sabres, and Bandits also of the NLL) who, in turn, started an NLL expansion franchise using the former name.
